James Dixon was a larger-than-life figure in the early days of American football. The Professional Years

After graduating from Carlisle in 1917, Dixon turned professional. He played for the Canton Bulldogs of the American Professional Football Association (APFA),which later became the National Football League (NFL). Dixon was one of the first Native American players in the NFL, and he quickly became one of the league's most popular stars.

In 1920, Dixon joined the Cleveland Indians of the Ohio League. The Indians were one of the most successful professional football teams of the early 1920s, and Dixon was a key player on their championship team in 1922.

James Dixon's career was cut short by tragedy, but his legacy continues to live on. He was a pioneer in the professional game, and he paved the way for other Native American players to follow in his footsteps.
