The Blowback Trilogy is a gripping and thought-provoking series that explores the consequences of colonialism and imperialism. Set in 1950s Kenya, the trilogy follows the lives of three characters: Leo, a young white settler; Kari, a Kikuyu man fighting for independence; and Grace, a half-caste woman who straddles both worlds.

The trilogy begins with When the Lions Wake, which introduces us to Leo as he arrives in Kenya to join his family's coffee plantation. Leo is a young man with a lot of idealism, but he soon comes to realize the harsh realities of life in a colony. He sees the way that the white settlers treat the Kikuyu people, and he begins to question his own beliefs.

In The Flame Tree, the second book in the trilogy, Kari is a young Kikuyu man who joins the Mau Mau rebellion against British rule. Kari is a brave and determined fighter, but he also sees the cost of the war. He witnesses the atrocities committed by both sides, and he begins to doubt his own cause.

The final book in the trilogy, The Whistling Thorn, follows Grace as she tries to find her place in a world that is changing rapidly. Grace is a half-caste woman, and she has always felt like an outsider. She is not accepted by the white settlers, and she is not fully accepted by the Kikuyu people. But Grace is a strong and independent woman, and she is determined to find her own path.

The Blowback Trilogy is a powerful and moving story about the human cost of colonialism and imperialism. It is a story that is still relevant today, as we continue to grapple with the legacy of these systems.
