The Chicago Cubs Billy Goat Curse is one of the most famous and enduring curses in sports history. It began in 1945 when William Sianis, the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, was told to leave Wrigley Field during Game 4 of the World Series because his pet goat Murphy smelled bad. Sianis cursed the Cubs, saying that they would never win another World Series.

The Cubs did not win another World Series until 2016, 71 years later. The curse was finally broken when the Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games.

The Billy Goat Curse has been the subject of much debate and speculation over the years. Some people believe that the curse was real and that it prevented the Cubs from winning the World Series. Others believe that the curse was just a coincidence.

Regardless of whether or not the curse was real, it is clear that it had a profound impact on the Cubs and their fans. The curse became a symbol of the team's long-suffering history and it was a source of great frustration for fans.

The Cubs' victory in 2016 was a cathartic moment for the team and its fans. It was a moment that had been 71 years in the making. The victory proved that anything is possible and that even the most enduring curses can be broken.

The Beginning of the Curse

The Billy Goat Curse began on October 6, 1945, during Game 4 of the World Series between the Cubs and the Detroit Tigers. William Sianis, the owner of the Billy Goat Tavern, was sitting in the stands with his pet goat Murphy when he was asked to leave by security guards.

Sianis was told that Murphy smelled bad and that he was bothering other fans. Sianis was angry and refused to leave. He cursed the Cubs, saying that they would never win another World Series.

The Cubs lost Game 4 and went on to lose the World Series in seven games. The curse was born.

The Curse in Effect

The Cubs did not win another World Series for 71 years. During that time, they came close on several occasions, but they always seemed to find a way to lose.

In 1969, the Cubs had a 9 1/2 game lead in the National League East with just 14 games to play. They collapsed and lost the division to the New York Mets.

In 1984, the Cubs won the National League East and advanced to the National League Championship Series. They lost to the San Diego Padres in five games.

In 2003, the Cubs won the National League Central and advanced to the National League Championship Series. They lost to the Florida Marlins in seven games.

The Cubs' long-suffering fans began to believe that the curse was real. They became resigned to the fact that their team would never win another World Series.

The Curse is Broken

In 2016, the Cubs finally broke the curse. They won the National League Central and advanced to the World Series. They defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games to win their first World Series since 1908.

The Cubs' victory was a cathartic moment for the team and its fans. It was a moment that had been 71 years in the making. The victory proved that anything is possible and that even the most enduring curses can be broken.

The Legacy of the Curse

The Billy Goat Curse is a reminder that anything is possible in sports. It is a story of hope and redemption. It is a story that shows that even the longest curses can be broken.

The Cubs' victory in 2016 is an inspiration to all fans. It shows that anything is possible if you never give up.
